installation page = blank page

Hi colleagues,
I'm trying to make installation based on https://www.bigtreecms.org/docs/dev-guide/installation/ .

Step by step..
1) I have downloaded and extracted BigTreeCMS-4.2.11.zip

2) I created extra folder via FTP on my webhosting and uploaded complete folder core + following 5 files:
   bigtree.sql
   example-site.sql
   install.php
   license.txt
   README.md

3) I started http://bigtreecms.<MYSITEDEMO>.eu/install.php and blank page is displayed. What to do now? I tried to upload file phpinfo.php having "<?  phpinfo(); ?>" to check PHP is working and it worked properly.

Thank you for your help.

Re: installation page = blank page

I would try adding the following code to the top of install.php to see if it generates any errors:

error_reporting(E_ALL);
ini_set("display_errors","on");

Re: installation page = blank page

Still nothing.

Also I commented these two lines.

	// ini_set("log_errors",false);
	// error_reporting(0);

Output of PHPINFO() function is ready for download here.

Re: installation page = blank page

It looks like you're running PHP 5.2 -- BigTree 4.2 requires PHP 5.3 or higher. I'm not sure if that's the issue or not but you're running an extremely old version of PHP.

Re: installation page = blank page

Our admin told me it's possible to provide us version 5.3.15, 5.4.45, 5.5.30, 5.6.14 or 5.7 (5.7 is maybe mistate and should be 7.0).
I will choose version 5.6.14, right?

Re: installation page = blank page

Sorry for the delayed response, I didn't get an email notification for some reason.

I would go with 5.6.14 -- there may be some lingering bugs in PHP 7 with BigTree as I haven't had it running in any live implementations personally.

Re: installation page = blank page

It's possible the .htaccess file that BigTree installs is throwing an internal server error. Did you use Basic routing or another method?

Re: installation page = blank page

Hi,
I have just installed Big Tree on my local server but get a blank page on both the public-facing page and when trying to access the admin page
The apache2 access log entries are:
For public-facing page - '... [04/Mar/2018:13:45:45 +0000] "GET /index.php HTTP/1.1" 200 312 ...'
For the admin page - '... [04/Mar/2018:14:29:57 +0000] "GET /index.php/admin/ HTTP/1.1" 200 525  ...'

I set error reporting to 'all' and got the following result when trying to access both pages:
    Notice: Undefined index: bigtree_admin in /var/www/shrew3a/core/router.php on line 525
    Notice: Undefined index: extension_layout in /var/www/shrew3a/core/router.php on line 473
   Notice: Undefined variable: navid in /var/www/shrew3a/core/router.php on line 298

The htaccess file being used at the base url is:
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteRule ^$ site/ [L]
    RewriteRule (.*) site/$1 [L]

The htaccess file being used within the /site/ folder is 2.8kB in size and starts with:
    <IfModule mod_deflate.c>
        <IfModule mod_setenvif.c>
            <IfModule mod_headers.c>

The site is being run with the following virtualhost setup:
    <VirtualHost *:80>
          ServerAdmin [blanked out]
          ServerName [blanked out]
          ServerAlias [blanked out]
          DocumentRoot /var/www/[blanked out]/site
      <Directory /var/www/[blanked out]/site>
        Options -Indexes +FollowSymLinks +MultiViews
        AllowOverride All
        Require all granted
      </Directory>
      ErrorLog /var/www/[blanked out]/logs/error.log
      CustomLog /var/www/[blanked out]/logs/access.log combined
</VirtualHost>

I am using php 7 and mysql server version 5.7.21

Any help will be gratefully received.

Re: installation page = blank page

Do you have mod_rewrite installed/enabled on the server? Usually when accessing the home page and admin area on a site you'll see something like this in the Apache log:

72.128.88.214 - - [04/Mar/2018:17:35:29 -0500] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 13136 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; Trident/7.0; rv:11.0) like Gecko"
74.101.45.156 - - [04/Mar/2018:17:28:27 -0500] "GET /admin/ HTTP/1.0" 302 683 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:40.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/40.1"

Re: installation page = blank page

If that's not the issue could you paste your environment.php file (feel free to blank out passwords and make the domains generic but seeing the format of the domain would be helpful)!

Re: installation page = blank page

Thanks for your comments. I confirmed that mod_rewrite is ON and I have amended the virtualhost entries. The result is that I now get a listing of all the files at the webroot when I point my browser at the site. When I attempt to get the admin site I get a 404 error. Copies of all (I hope) the relevant bits are shown below.

ACCESS LOG ENTRIES
================
127.0.0.1 - - [05/Mar/2018:10:22:00 +0000] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 880 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/64.0.3282.168 Safari/537.36 OPR/51.0.2830.40"
127.0.0.1 - - [05/Mar/2018:10:30:23 +0000] "GET /admin/ HTTP/1.1" 404 2178 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/64.0.3282.168 Safari/537.36 OPR/51.0.2830.40"

Re: installation page = blank page

Another two guesses:

- Is index.php set as the DirectoryIndex ?
- Is short_open_tag set to On in php.ini

Hi,
Yes, both correctly set. I'm going to wipe the installation (including database and vhosts settings and start all over again.

Re: installation page = blank page

Hi again.

Things are slightly better after the re-install.
Pointing my browser at [website] shows "Index of /" and all the files and folders therein are shown below that title.

Initially, pointing my browser at [website]/admin showed a 404 message. I searched for the 'admin' folder and found it in the '/custom' folder.
In the 'environment.php' file, I set: $bigtree["config"]["admin_root"] = "http://[website]/custom/admin/";  but that also showed a 404 message.

I moved the 'admin' folder out of the '/custom' folder and placed it in the [website] root then amended the above line to  "http://[website]/admin/";
Pointing the browser at  [website]/admin now shows "Index of /admin" and all the files and folders therein are listed below that title.

I found that [website]/core/launch.php was not set to be executable. I set it to be executable but it made no difference.

If I point my browser at [website]/site I get the example site home page displayed but without any css etc., being picked up. Looking at the page source, this file expects to find the css at "http://[website]/site/css/site.css" but there is no such file at that location.

The possibility occurs to me that the installer for version 4.2.21 may be putting files and folders in the wrong places or has not correctly reflected the structure of the example site.

Any more ideas, please?

Re: installation page = blank page

It sounds like the .htaccess file in the root directory isn't being read. /.htaccess should redirect all traffic into /site/ which is the public root of a BigTree installation. BigTree's core systems all live inside of the /core/ folder (including the admin) and are all routed through the /site/index.php file. The /custom/ directory contains overrides fore /core/ as well as your module classes, custom field types, environment, and setup files.

Re: installation page = blank page

Thanks for that. We are getting there. I added 'AllowOverride All' to the vhost entry for this site.

Pointing the web browser at [website] now results in total success. Thanks.
Pointing the web browser at [website/admin gives a 404 error BUT, at least it is a pretty Big Tree 404 (see below).

Page is headed by a black "Trees of All Sizes" banner with a functioning menu hamburger icon at the right hand side.

Re: installation page = blank page

Make sure your www_root and admin_root in your environment.php file no longer contain /site/ in them. That could be causing the 404 when accessing the admin.

Re: installation page = blank page

I’ve created dozens of WordPress sites, and am thoroughly used to installing them, but this is something I’ve never seen before. Upon uploading the config file, with all the correct information (I’ve checked it over and over again), I navigate to the site and instead of the first installation screen specifying language, I get nothing at all. It’s the WordPress white screen of death, but it’s happening before the site is set up, so I have no way of debugging it (that I know of) or figuring out what’s happening; and Google, in its googly way, gives tons of irrelevant results but nothing on this specific problem.

Re: installation page = blank page

Are you hitting install.php when trying to install? BigTree doesn’t auto redirect to the installer like WordPress does.
